Chelinda Lodge is in the heart of the Nyika Plateau with panoramic views over rolling grasslands. This African safari lodge in Malawi is built entirely of pine logs and stone; each of the 8 cabins are beautifully appointed with a log fire, queen-size beds and fully contained en-suite bathroom.
Chelinda Camp is only about 2 kilometres away (1.2 miles). Originally it was Parks Department buildings, but the camp is now greatly improved with a choice of 6 en-suite rooms, 4 family cottages and a camping site, where you can self-cater if you choose.
The Nyika Plateau is well known for its safari activities giving you that chance to explore the plateau and its gently folding hills on a horse, mountain bike, on foot or in a game viewing vehicle. While the wildlife is not prolific, an encounter with an Elephant on a walk or on horseback is something out of this World.
There are several different kinds of antelopes, the mighty Eland and rare Roan Antelopes can be seen in large herds on the rich grasslands at the end of winter (August). The Park is also reputed to have a high density of Leopard - which is a real highlight to see on an African safari holdiay. September to March is the best game viewing season.
Birdlife is extraordinary too with 500 different species in the area. Beneath the plateau is the rugged hot bushveld of the Vwaza Marsh, coursed by rivers and offering great game viewing.
